About this Project
Hello, dear friend! Welcome here!
My name is Elena. In this blog, I share experiences of our family in organic gardening in the Indonesian tropics: how we grow durians, mangoes, avocados, and flowers without chemicals, the challenges we face, and the solutions we find.
Our family has been living in Indonesia since 2018, and our gardening journey began quite unexpectedly – in the silence and uncertainty of lockdown – 2020. We decided to create something living, real, and growing together with us. Our lifehacks are useful for those, who live in Bali or in other exotic regions of our planet.
The very first experiments were in a small garden of just 300 square meters—my mother-in-law’s plot. This tiny patch of land became our laboratory: we tried, made mistakes, and learned to observe and listen to nature. A little later we got our own plot of land in the mountains, and from that moment all our attention and inspiration switched to it.
Why durians? On the one hand, growing a truly delicious durian is no easy task, so it was a challenge. On the other hand, durians can generously reward patience and hard work, as a good harvest can bring substantial profits. You’ll agree, that’s a great motivator.
My introduction to durian was gradual. I first tried it at a relative’s house. A very small piece, that didn’t allow me to feel the taste properly. Later, we traveled with the whole family to Madura island and stopped by to try some durians along the way. My love was cemented a few months later, when our friend gave us three ripe durians. They made me fall in love with them completely.
With the durians planted, our garden began to grow and change. Mangoes, avocados, and citrus fruits gradually joined them, and this year, it was the turn of flowers. Thus, step by step, our tropical garden was created—living and diverse. It become a source of interesting stories.
I invite you on a fascinating journey by the footpath of our tropical garden—with joys, discoveries and small victories.
